In an exciting development for Mac security, Patrick Wardle, a renowned security expert, has partnered with former Apple researcher Mikhail Sosonkin to establish DoubleYou. This new venture seeks to revolutionize how security tools are integrated into macOS systems by offering modular applications tailored to combat various malware threats.
According to Wardle, who recently spoke with TechCrunch, the idea behind DoubleYou is not to reinvent the wheel but to understand and adapt the strategies used by attackers for protective measures. "We're looking at security from a defensive standpoint, aiming to provide developers the ability to easily integrate advanced security features into their products," Wardle explained.
The company’s strategy involves a catalog-like approach where developers can select and purchase only the security components they need. This method not only saves time for developers but also enhances the overall security landscape of Mac systems by making high-quality protection accessible to all.
While the catalog is still under development, it will feature a variety of security modules, including a core component that focuses on analyzing and blocking unrecognized code in running processes. This approach leverages the expertise gained from Wardle's nonprofit Objective-See Foundation, which has been developing macOS security tools for over a decade.
Both founders bring a wealth of experience to DoubleYou. Wardle's security journey included a stint at NASA and nearly three years at the National Security Agency before founding Digita Security, which he later sold to Jamf. Sosonkin, with a background that includes Amazon, Amnesty International, and a teaching role at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, complements Wardle's expertise with his own rich history in cybersecurity.
As DoubleYou prepares to roll out its innovative security solutions, the tech community watches eagerly, hopeful that this new approach will lead to a safer operating environment for Mac users worldwide.
